Altona Library upgrading is coming! The 53-year old library will be closed from 23 July to 1 October 2018 for refurbishment.
New Facilities
The library will be upgraded with a new layout, carpet, paint, bookshelves, lighting, furniture and study spaces.
Other new facilities include:

- Community meeting room
- Expanded Enviro Centre moved to where the current staff area is located.
- Recycling station
- Help desk
- New collection section
Temporary Service
A smaller, temporary library service will operate from Monday 6 August. This is located in the meeting room next to the toilets. Library users can access a limited collection of books, computer stations, print services and Wi-Fi from this temporary location.
For the two weeks closure from 23 July to 5 August, library users can collect their reserved items at other Hobsons Bay Library branches. From 6 August, the reserved items can be picked up from the temporary library service.
Rhyme Time and Story Time will relocate to the Community Meeting Space of Altona City Theatre at 115 Civic Parade during this refurbishment period.
Altona library will re-open on Monday 1 October with an official community celebration on Saturday 6 October.
Big Book Sale
Before the library closes for renovation, there is a book sale by the Friends of Altona Libraries .
The sale is held on Friday 6 July from 10am to 6pm and on Saturday 7 July 10am to 2pm.
It is held at the Altona Library Meeting Room, 123 Queen Street.
