When my son started doing a peculiar dance move, I was very intrigued. While picking up my kids after school, I saw other kids doing the same dance at Altona Primary School.
I learnt this is currently a global craze, like what the fidget spinnner did last year. This dance is called the floss dance.
The floss dance was invented by a 16-year old American schoolboy called Russell Horning. He posted a YouTube video of himself doing the dance move on 18 August 2016. The video soon racked up tens of thousands of views, which were followed suit by other imitators of his signature dance. On 20 May 2017, Russell was invited to perform his dance on Saturday Night Live alongside Katy Perry when she sang her song Swish Swish. He stole the show with his free-flowing dance moves, deadpan expression and signature rucksack. He has since been nicknamed the “Backpack Kid” and the dance move had travelled around the world, performed by celebrities including Millie Bobby Brown, Tottenham ace Dele Alli and GMB’s Kate Garraway and Charlotte Hawkins.
