The Harrington Square is a shopping square with more than 20 shops, including a Foodworks supermarket, opposite the Westona Train Station and Mount St Joseph Girls’ College.

This is located at the former site of the Altona Coal Mine which operated between 1905 and 1919 and from which, nearly 32,000 tonnes of coal was extracted. The Victorian Government eventually decided to develop open cut mining in the Latrobe Valley, bringing deep shaft coal mining in Altona to an end in the early 1930s.
